Today, on International Education Day, we are reminded that education is a fundamental right for every child and every girl—a right to open the doors of hope, freedom, and a better future. Yet, in Afghanistan, hundreds of thousands of girls have been denied this right. They have been barred not only from entering schools but also from pursuing their dreams, opportunities, and the right to shape their own lives.


The Afghan Women’s Rights Watch raises the voices of these silenced girls and women. Denial of education is not merely the absence of books and classrooms; it is the erasure of identity, the suppression of hope, and the curtailing of their human potential. Every girl deprived of education represents a lost generation of talent, dreams, and potential achievements, and a society that could have flourished remains wounded.


We call on the international community to break this silence and take action against the systematic deprivation of Afghan girls and women. No excuse can justify gender-based discrimination, and no girl should be denied the light of education and the opportunities of life simply because of her gender.


Education is power—the power to change lives, the power to create equality, the power to inspire hope. No Afghan girl should be deprived of this power, and no girl should lose her future under the shadow of bans and restrictions. Today, our voice is for them—for the girls who are unseen, unheard, and forcibly denied their right to live and learn.
