Statement by Afghanistan Women's Rights Watch in Response to Russia's Recent Decision
The Afghanistan Women's Rights Watch expresses deep concern over the recent decision by the Russian government to remove the Taliban from its list of terrorist organizations. This action not only paves the way for potential recognition of this group but also carries worrisome implications for the international community. It may convey the message that "despite violating human rights, one can still gain recognition."
No country in the world has yet recognized the Taliban, and the reasons for this are clear:
Since taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban has systematically violated the fundamental rights of women and girls.
Afghan women have been deprived of education, employment, and participation in public life.
The actions of this group are entirely inconsistent with international human rights standards.
The Afghanistan Women's Rights Watch believes that any step toward recognizing this group could reinforce inhumane practices and the ongoing violation of human rights in Afghanistan, further diminishing the hopes of the Afghan people for a better future.
We call on all nations to remain vigilant against such decisions and to clearly express their support for the rights of the Afghan people, especially women and girls.
