Within the scope of the panel marking the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Turkish Civil Code, a meaningful gathering was held on 17 February 2026, hosted by the Trabzon Barosu, with the contributions of the Trabzon Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi, the TMMOB İl Koordinasyon Kurulu, and various civil society organizations.

During the panel:

  • Sibel Suiçmez delivered a presentation titled “The Turkish Civil Code: A Women’s Revolution,” addressing the transformative historical power of the Civil Code.

  • Prof. Dr. Emel Badur shared her reflections on “The Future of the Civil Code.”

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Gayretli Aydın discussed the development of women’s rights within the framework of the Civil Code.

  • Dr. Zakire Hekmat, in her speech titled “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow of Women: The Case of Afghanistan,” highlighted the significance of the Civil Code in the struggle for equal citizenship and shared, from an international perspective, the systematic human rights violations faced by women in Afghanistan.

The panel provided a strong platform for collective reflection, reminding participants of the historical achievements in women’s rights and emphasizing the importance of solidarity.
